The trailer for season 2 of Loki has landed, revealing Loki is back at the TVA, that is when he isn’t “time slipping” into various temporal hotspots throughout history. I was onboard for unit stills and part of the specials for 5 months, mostly shooting at Pinewood, up until October 2022. On wrapping it was like parting from family. I’ve very fond memories of the shoot, cast and crew.
As lead actor Tom Hiddleston was extremely generous with his time, fully appreciating the importance of stills in the promotion machine. Intelligent and polite he knew everyone’s name on set. I recall as part of his preparation ritual he would bring in a music box, selecting tracks to reflect the energy of the scene to come. He would also exercise before scenes, as would co star Jonathan Majors. It was an amusing sight to see the two of them doing their own different routines to separate soundtracks, getting into character and generating the adrenaline required to deliver once ‘action’ was called. Tom’s interactions with Owen Wilson had crackling chemistry another highlight to witness.
Something else I, and many others involved, enjoyed was the joining to the franchise of actor Ke Huy Quan. An Oscar winner for Everything’s Everywhere All at Once and for many such as myself an iconic actor from childhood. Though now all grown up his voice sent me spiralling right back to Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Working in this industry often gives surreal pinch me moments meeting and working with people I gazed at on a huge flickering screen munching on popcorn. Magic!
